Welcome to Kefalonia building site! Decided we would have a chilled out afternoon in Agia Efimia today, the Kantina felt right, couple of beers, souvlaki and chips, watch the yachts arriving etc, not a bloody chance! major building works going on at next door. kangos, peckers, diggers and hardcore waggons arriving, dust everywhere, people staying nearby were quite rightly disgusted!
Went to yialos instead, waggon after waggon, concrete, rocks, diggers on trucks going past all afternoon. How can this be allowed at peak holiday time? I really do feel that unless someone controlls the building work in the holiday season, more and more tourists will never come back, trouble is, it will be to late then wont it?
I am afraid that Kefalonia is quickly going the way of other resorts that lost out through over development, they cannot see that the paying punters will vote with their wallet and go elsewhere.

Nightmares DTG, The building plot called Kefalonia pales to insignificance when the airport here is used!
It is a total nightmare! You will queue for at least 3-4 hours in one queue or another and you start your nightmare session in full sun for an hour or so!!!!
The answer travel on a Saturday 'cos Tuesday and Sunday it is a hell hole!
Better yet go to Alaska!
But what ever you do, avoid Kefalonia airport on a Tuesday and Sunday. The recent improvements made have totally screwed the whole place up...bigtime!!!!
The is only one class of traveller there.......Cattle class.
The reps are rude, aggressive and irritable. They hate it as well.
This island does not realise the shit is about to hit the fan business wise, and like Nero they are fiddling whilst Rome burns. As Argo says, they are more interested in the football or basketball results than making a sustainable tourist industry.
By the way had a bit of a complaint from the estate agents in Argostoli they say my websites are making life difficult for them!
 shame.
Methinks this is a scapegoat for dwindling sales figures!

Yes, I can see where you are coming from on this TDC.
Tuesdays are now getting as bad as Sundays with all the Scandanavian flights. There is a way of avoiding the worst of the cattle truck queues - but I suspect most people will still want to use the tour operators transfers?
Regarding estate agents, there are far too many of them on Kef - all fighting for the same clients. And clients usually sign up with the agent suggesting the highest asking/selling price. ........... Greed and unrealistic expectations tend to be a vicious circle ending in financial heartache.

The problem is that the Greeks don't realise, or don't want to, that they are in a service industry.
When Billy Brit and his missus and their two sprogs have paid three grand for a holiday they expect the shit bin to be emptied every day. They expect good service and a friendly face. The fact that Spiros and his family are only getting six euros a night from fristthomsoncook holidays is of no consequence to Billy.
Pretty soon there will be so much accomodation and no holiday makers that Spiros will long for the days when only Billy came to visit, and not Nyeko from Slovenia.

Been there, done that, but didn’t buy a tee-shirt; a hard hat and hi-viz jacket would have been more use. Surely Agia Efimia cannot absorb this scale of development without losing its unique identity and the very reasons why Mike and I have made our annual pilgrimage to AE since 1993.
For various reasons we have missed our visits for the last three years, but have just returned to the UK after spending the last two weeks in AE meeting old friends and re-visiting our favourite haunts.
Although we may not always like it, we can generally accept ‘progress’ and understand that things move on and people are entitled to make a living, but if some control is not placed on this level of development and, dare I say it, exploitation, AE is in danger of becoming a casualty of its own uniqueness, and what has been for many years Kefalonia’s best-kept secret will quickly become just another tour company carbuncle, bringing with it the Greek equivalent of ‘kiss-me-quick’ hats and plastic souvenirs made in Taiwan.
