Two Moons?????
Two moons on 27 August Not sure about you guys in the UK, but suspect it was the same for you last night (apart from your excessively wet cloud cover of course) but the moon looked strange, only the top quarter was shining! We have all seen new moons, half moons and full moons, but frankly I have never seen the moon lit the way it was last night. The reason is Mars is casting a shadow. Why? Well mes enfants I, my thanks to Sheila for this, will tell you! 27th Aug the Whole World is waiting for......... Planet Mars will be the brigh-*test*-('") in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will culminate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles off earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am (UK time). It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. So now you all know! TDC 8)

Thanks for info TDC, I will keep my eye out on the 27th Aug. Was up in the castle last night and we all commented on how the moon looked with its shadows. P.S. My optician reckons I need glasses, but I could see the moon last night and thats millions of miles away. She is having a 'larf''!!!!! 8)

If its true we can organize hot air ballon trips, and have a bit of a walk around, get yer mars bars ere! 8)

Funny thing these eclipses - there are usually two moons on Wednesday night when I walk home from the pub. Last Wednesday there were four - is this a record? Phil

TDC 8) I've got an excuse, the sun has fried my brains, but you guys back in the UK cannot claim the same (ho ho!) ............However........ Frankly I do blame myself for not spotting it earlier but we were all out by 24 hours moon watching! Your honours if the case for the prosecution (we are all accused of dumb thinking) may make so bold as to point out the simple concept that the date changes at midnight. Ergo 12.30 am on the 27th was Tuesday night/Wednesday morning and not as we were all thinking Wednesday night/Thursday morning!!!!!!!!!! DOH!!!!!! (and I do include myself in this Doh!) In other words we were all a day late! And Yes this earth shattering revelation did come to me as whilst I had allowed for the 2 hours time difference (i.e. 12.30 = 02.30 here) It occurred to me ( well Judi truthfully) as nothing was happening that we were all 24 hours out. Anyone else feel as dumb as me now??? TDC 8) P.S. This means Reuben you have a bigger problem than you originally thought!
