Interesting concept. There was a huge argument in Government circles in Athens the other day over Kefalonia, and it has been on Greek telly ever since. It almost came to blows!!! It seems the Democratia party are predicting a big earthquake for Kefalonia this year and it would be wise to steer people away from here to other islands.
Pasok say bollocks, no one can predict this for certain and this is just a front to divert tourism funding to certain members own islands.
The move to make this a public dispute is purely a political and a funding issue which is unforgivable as it could totally destroy the tourist season in Kefalonia without any degree of certainty. Lets face it, who can predict what and where acurately?
The Earthquake institute in Athens who started this dispute after the recent 6.5 in Patras agree there is no certainty at all, which is why they need more money to research it. Meantime lets panic everyone into giving us more money to carry on researching what we don't know, and can never really predict accurately anyway.
Meantime questions are being still asked about the last earthquake and the airport fiasco. Some people are asking how come the earthquke damage happened to the airtraffic control systems 45 minutes after the earthquke actually struck, surely the system would have crashed during or at least seconds after the quake struck. Plus, how did a plane take off from Kefalonia nearly an hour after planes were diverted to other airports or stopped leaving the UK, if there was no airtraffic control?
Makes you think eh??????

Meanwhile, as speculation of strong aftershocks began to die down, an Athens University geology professor rebuffed media claims that he had predicted a 7.2-Richter quake on the Ionian island of Cephalonia on July 30. Evangelos Layios said he had never referred to the date and location of a future earthquake during a recent interview with a television journalist, noting that his research was still under way.

interesting! I suspect the whole issue was encouraged originally by research departments who want more money for research then by other islands government represenatives to move holidays makers towards their islands away from Kefalonia.
This farce was then was blown out of all proportion by the media, sniffing a good story.
Which of course is very bad news for Kefalonia.

If it happens on July 30th I'll bring my dustpan and brush in August!
Hide some Mythos, we wouldn't want it all getting broken in a big one now, would we?
