I.E. v's FireFox
Microsoft's I.E. v's FireFox There is a common impression on this island that if you use FireFox you will never get a virus. I have heard this from locals several times now. This piece of stupid knowledge (I suspect started by OTE) has been embraced by the local community wholeheartedly as it now saves them having to buy firewalls and anti-virus protection. Which as many of the Greeks only use the Internet to find porn I suppose this is a good piece of advice in a way, as many of these sites have undesirable little macros and gimmicks that will not execute as FireFox cannot read Java script anymore...........it used to! To other "non" porn surfers I must say most emphatically Not so please keep your firewalls and virus protection up to date. Another (bad) side effect of using FireFox is it does limit your surfing experience as many web sites look distorted, stretched out and of course if the navigation is Java based you cannot navigate through the site. It can be argued that you should not use Java based navigation for this very reason. I say "bollocks" as over 90% still use Microsoft explorer and less than 2% FireFox. FireFox in it's present form spoils surfing experience. So what do you all think eh? TDC 8)

I use both Firefox 3.0.1 and IE7 with no problems. I have a preference for Firefox which I use most of the time - I prefer the tabbing. My AV is Avira Premium and I rely on a hardware firewall, although most of the time I have XP firewall turned on. I have never been a fan of Zone Alarm. Phil
