Fuel Shortages! There are loads of petrol stations on Kefalonia. The problem at the moment is few of them have any petrol to sell!! The knock on effect is no fuel for buses taxis and planes here either. So airport transfers are under threat as well.
There is a tanker driver strike at the moment and fuel is running short fast! This is a problem for people with hire cars, so be warned! If you are low on fuel stay local!!!!!
The other effect is the logistical support to Supermarkets, Tavernas, Shops etc. are also running out of fuel so shop shelves and Taverna fridges are emptying fast too!

So far there is no political will to sort the Tanker drivers out so unless the drivers have a change of heart Greece will grind to a standstill.

Ho Hum, got half a tank of petrol ain't going nowhere apart from Agia Efimia!

My local garage in Vlachata couldn't even give me a cup of petrol to fill my scooter yesterday.
However, they did request I return tonight as they think they may have supplies then.
Fingers crossed et all.
Hope it's sorted by the middle of June or we may be arriving by parachute!!

Strike News....The results! Yup Bravos, (shell petrol stn.) here got a delivery last night.
From what I can gather, the drivers settled for a 5% wage rise. Not the 13% they were asking for.
Bet this is not the end of the matter! Just like the Leccy boys, there is still dark mutterings going on in the background.

Great News, thanks for the info !

This is only a temporary suspension of the strike to re-fuel petrol stations and avoid turmoil in Greece.
I would recommend you get a container of petrol and store it in your garage for a rainy day. Many people seem to be doing so.

Hugh, So the strike isn't over ?
HughC- 05-16-2008
Hi Ian, from the information I have been given and from reading other message boards it appears the tanker drivers have succumbed to Govt pressure and temporary suspended the strike to prevent turmoil.
This is likely to set a precedent, so hopefully, if the strike is re-activated we should not suffer any long term shortages.

Cheers Hugh, I had these visions of arriving on the island on Sunday, picking up the Hire car, to find it only have enough petrol to get us to the villa, and not being able to go anywhere for the week, due to the lack of petrol.
I've just heard the shelves were empty in the lidl, I hope there fully restocked with those small bottles of Retsina by Monday
PPS i bet there will be a few loud bangs on the island this year, when some sheds are opened with lit cigarettes in mouth BOOOOOOOOOOOM dangerous game storing petrol
