Ferry to Italy from Kefalonia Hi
I've just joined the site and was wondering if anyone had used the Agoudimos ferry from Sami to Bari. We're driving to the UK from Kefalonia this winter and were hoping to try this route.

ticket to Ride! Never tried it as we prefer the Strintzis ferry to Patras then the Anek to Venice. I have heard the coffees are bl**dy expensive! This is from people who have used the Sami - Patras part of the route. So I assume everything else is a bit pricey whilst on board. Besides trying to pre book tickets with Agoudimos direct is a nightmare, their web site is crap. I suppose Ainos travel could help there.
We make a little holiday of the 2 nights on the Anek ferry and it is much less driving at the other end! We hurry through Italy and cannot wait to get to Switzerland where we have lunch at the first services we come to. Then overnight in the holiday express place near Luzern. leaving us fresh for F-r-a-n-c-e.......... which goes on forever.......and ever.....and ever! Eventually arriving at the chunnel, which we also pre book as it is much cheaper that way and they allow you two hours grace each side of the booked time. The roads are great, no problems anywhere, traffic may slow a bit near Milan but all the other routes are usually clear. That is until you hit the M25 Dartford crossing...UGH!

I have used Agoudimos, I have also learned a lesson the Expensive way! Agoudimos are a complete rip-off once you are on the ferry bloody expesive! also do NOT go to Bari, the Italians will nick the wheels off your car, the theiving Italian barstewards will nick the saddle off a nightmare, do as we did and Paul advises, go Patras to Venice far safer far more relaxed. - enjoy 8)

I agree with TDC and DTG about the Sami - Patras - Venice option although I have done it from Venice only. TDC advises you to take a kettle and your own tea bags. I forgot to take the tea bags so when I went for the full breakfast option and decided to take a few teabags back to the cabin. I did not realise that I was charged for each bag until I paid so my tea turned out to be a bit expensive. A lesson learnt.
The cabin was very nice, large and clean - a bit like a 3 star UK hotel and reasonably priced. For a relaxing journey it is great.
I did not drive. Instead I flew to Venice to catch the ferry, taxi from Sami to AE then did a Nicos hire car at reasonable rates. It al worked really well.
Thanks to TDC for the advice on this route - it was spot on.

Thanks for the recommendations. We've gone from Patras to Italy a number of times but find that we waste a lot of time travelling to Patras and waiting for the ferry. We travelled direct from Brindisi one summer and found it much more convenient. But this route only operates in summer whereas the Agoudimos ferry appears to go all year. We'll try it this year and let you know how we get on.
