By-Pass approved in Agia Efimia! I hear the By-Pass for Agia Efimia has been approved at last (after much argument) . Not seen the plans yet, can't comment accurately, but Gatsby has! So perhaps if not too busy he could enlighten us all please?
Anyway, he did stop by today to tell me about it, so I will eventually get to see them. Rush, Rush, Busy, Busy. :? Bit worried as they seem to be building it above Makis village. :?
One step forward two steps back! Usual Kefalonia form!!!! If past form is anything to go by they should be ready to start by May the first.
But once built it will improve the traffic situation in town. :-D

Or is it approved??????? It seems according to another source (Greek this time) that the plans have not actually been approved for this By-Pass as they do not yet have "done deals" on all the land they need. To quote today's source "Not for 500 years will they build this!" Well that may be a long time and a slight exaggeration. But it does seem this is a socialist mayor attempting to regenerate flagging support by wheeling out these plans again claiming it will go ahead. There is more to the background of this story, but I lack the time to tell it here at the moment.
So political posturing and hot air then. I asked Aris to ask for more details for me "Why?" he asked me "They all lie!"
Same the whole world over then!!!!

Definitely the same the whole world over. The first proposed line for a bypass where I live was drawn in 1938. Unfortunately a world-war, changes of government, economic downturns, etc, intervened, so don't hold your breath!!
Is Aris the right person to ask for reliable information????
Dave the Greek- 08-06-2008
Knowing the Exact route of this bypass, I again offer to show my arse on Myrtos beach IF it ever takes place 8)
Biglaughs- 08-06-2008
The By Pass! It is hoped to god they don't start and build it in May! But what will we do for traffic entertainment whilst sat in the coffee bars when the traffic is gone! l too don't think Aris is the one to get information from as it changes from day to day depending on what t shirt he's wearing- Bless him!!!Missing you all loads.
PS. Weather - grim!!!!!!
denise- 08-07-2008
Part of our holiday enjoyment is sitting on the balcony watching the traffic chaos at "Chaos Corner"! The only time I have seen it quiet is when I have woken up in the night and had a peep out of the window.
Dave the Greek- 08-08-2008
You have a What! out of the window? thats disgusting!
oh dear it was peep, note to diary, must call at Specsavers :)

Argo- 08-08-2008
Talking of roads have you seen that ridiculous bit of road from Lidls into Argostoli!!! I cannot think why they want a new road for that stretch of road unless they want to kill off a few more youngsters on motorbikes/or Albies in cars!!! Or maybe so we can all charge along that bit of road and sit in an even longer traffic jam in Argostoli. The money that has been spent must be large and surely could have been better spent fi ing in some holes in existing roads!! Or even simply putting it towards a new bridge across the lagoon that is strong enough to take traffic. not sure I would like that but I think the locals might.

Come on please tell what's the route and who's going to make a bomb from complusory land sale.

They haven't actually realised yet Thomo, but they already HAVE a bypass!!
It runs west from Aghia Efima towards Myrtos beach, turn left towards Argostoli, turn left south of Argostoli and head towards Sami.
Simple.....the new Aghia Efima bypass without spending a penny!
Thomo- 08-17-2008
Well then if they don't need to spend money on the by pass they could drop the rent on the Boulevard Hotel and get Johnny back in there! What an eyesore. From a focal point of the harbour/bay to a run down derilict disgrace.
Seems like even our local coucils over here have not yet got the monopoly on strange decisions!
That Darn Cat- 08-17-2008
Thomo,
The hotel is planned to be re-opened as the Municipality offices! Prime site, excellent location, so why not make it an office block??????
The Municipality of Pylaros is the smallest municipality in Greece, so it has been suggested Pylaros and Sami are going to Join together and their new office be.............................
Pylaros Boulevard Hotel. which by the way is smaller than the existing offices in both Sami and Agia Efimia!
Socialist thinking here. One of the best locations in town so lets make it an admin block!
The new route for the by pass cuts off the main road just before town (Sami side) along the hill side above Makis Pool bar and the pharmacy turning right just beyond the town and rejoining the main road near Hectors house. Hmmmmmmmmmm. The argument is this will restrict future growth of the town.
They do not own all the land yet! 3 big families here in Agia Efimia(politically wise) some of whom do own it, oppose the plan. The recent optimism is because the biggest objector (Gonatas...of the hotel fame) recently passed away and with him the biggest thorn in the side of the mayor's proposal. But no one really knows how the Gonatas family will now vote, and if the other two families will still object as strongly now some of their political power base has passed away.
So it is all very up in the air. And remember Makis ( of Pool bar fame) said "not for 500 years will this happen" so who knows?
This is what makes Greece sooo much fun! No one knows anything, all believe something different and it aint never over till the fat lady sings!
