Airport closed! Chaos!!!!!!!!!
Kefalonia airport has been closed because the earthquake has cut the electricity supply. Flights inbound have been diverted to Thessaloniki and one plane at East midlands in the UK was about to take off when they had to return to the airport terminal.
Oh dear!

Wow! We escaped just in time!!!! Our flight left at 12.35 pm and we arrived back to the UK to see the BBC web site reporting the Patras quake. We didn't feel any tremors this morning but after the activity of the past few days I am not surprised. I just hope everyone on Kefalonia and in particular in the Agia Efimia/Pylaros area keeps safe. TDC - I think you and your Other Half should take cover in your earthquake shelter tonight!!!!!

Hope everything's ok - we're thinking of you, (but then we usually are!).

Nasty Rumour! I heard a nasty rumour today that the power out at the airport and it's systems was inflicted not so much by the earthquake, but by the service company who administers to the airport then blamed on several factors all as a result of the earthquake. None of which was true.
 :?
It seems the main minister chappie for Kefalonia turned up at the airport with the Mayor of Argostoli and threatened the service company with immediate eviction from the airport and their contract cancelled if the air traffic control systems were not immediatly re-instated. Guess what????? They were back online and fully functional in minutes!
My informant was a witness to this and actually spoke to the minister afterwards who was boiling mad.
The speculation is, how much extra money do you make if there are hundreds and hundreds of people milling round the airport buying stuff whilst waiting for their flight. Also how much can you charge for "expert" technicians required to repair the faults. There is big money to be made here.
I cannot verify this "alledged" story so must stress this is speculation and may be way off the mark. But it makes you think.

Well in answer to that - nothing would surprise me if what you say turns out to be true. However I am becoming more cynical as time goes on. I am also sure the guy that owns the bar next to the airport was a very happy chappie!!!
